In October 2016, the GE Digital Technology Leadership Program (DTLP) Recruiting team attended the Grace Hopper Conference to share opportunities in technology at GE and recruit potential interns & program members. To contribute back to the program of which I'd been a part and explore visual design outside of the digital realm, I volunteered to design conference t-shirts.
I used illustrations and typography to showcase Grace Hopper's legacy and draw parallels with the essence of the DT Leadership Program - to push boundaries and seek solutions to daunting, complex challenges.
Side Project Summary
I contributed the following during this side project:

Details: Creating the Concept
I started by researching Grace Hopper herself - a fierce computer scientist, Grace was a pioneer for women in technology for the greater part of the twentieth century. One story stuck in my mind: among her major accomplishments, Hopper made an indelible mark on computer science. After literally pulling a moth from a room-sized computer, she coined the term "debugging." To me, this represented not only her impact (large and small) on technology, but also her irreverence and sense of humor.
I explored softened, abstracted moth imagery to pay homage to this story and included the simple "Grace" below the image to reference Hopper herself, as well as grace and femininity.
In a second design, I selected and illustrated a quote that embodied Hopper's willingness to push the status quo, the mindset that DTLPs are encouraged to develop throughout their time on program.
